David Weekes promoted to Principal at Pangaea Ventures

Pangaea Ventures has promoted David Weekes to Principal.

Before joining the firm in 2022, David spent several years at the University of British Columbia developing and implementing research and technology translation initiatives. His technical background spans clean energy, quantum materials and devices, and chemistry. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from UBC and a Masters in Chemistry with Honours in French from Newcastle University, and he has published technical and non-technical articles in these fields.

At Pangaea, David assesses early-stage hard tech: how the technology works, where it is strong, where it carries risk, and how far the market could carry it. He has also mentored a number of early-stage ventures and remains an active member of British Columbia's technology start-up community.

Founders are part of that assessment. In David's words, "I love meeting and learning about the founders of a new venture, just as much as I love learning about their technology."

Outside of work, David is usually in the coast mountains of British Columbia, on skis, on foot, or on a bike.
