Collaboration News: Hinalea and Neogen Bring Hyperspectral Imaging to Food Inspection

Neogen has announced a strategic collaboration with, and equity investment in, Pangaea portfolio company Hinalea Imaging. The companies will develop digital imaging solutions for food safety and quality inspection.

The two teams have evaluated hyperspectral imaging applications in food safety together since 2025. Neogen's investment and shared development costs are intended to accelerate Hinalea's technology for these uses.

Hyperspectral imaging captures information across a range of wavelengths, which lets it assess product characteristics that conventional images may not reveal. Combined with analytics and machine learning, it has the potential to support more automated measurement, counting and classification.

Food producers need reliable information sooner, with less manual work in testing and inspection. Neogen brings established food safety expertise and a presence in more than 140 countries. Hinalea brings the spectral imaging and machine learning. Together they open a path to wider adoption of automated measurement, giving food producers reliable results sooner.

The companies plan to develop solutions jointly and will keep evaluating where the technology delivers meaningful benefits within customer workflows.

Congratulations to Barry McDonogh, the Hinalea team and Neogen.
