Kandai Yamashita joins Pangaea Ventures as investment lead in Tokyo

Pangaea Ventures is excited to welcome Kandai Yamashita as our new investment lead in Tokyo, further strengthening Pangaea’s long-standing partnership model with corporate limited partners and Japan’s hard tech ecosystem.

Kandai joins from Mitsubishi Corporation’s CVC team, where he led investments in mining and climate-related technologies, and completed a two-year secondment at an external venture capital firm, gaining hands-on experience in venture workflows and portfolio management. 

He will draw on this dual corporate and institutional VC background to help Pangaea’s strategic LPs access globally relevant hard tech opportunities and to support founders as they navigate industrial partners, commercialization pathways, and scale-up challenges.

Kandai will lead Pangaea’s ongoing focus of stimulating collaboration between Japanese corporates and Pangaea’s portfolio companies, as we continue to nurture its presence in one of the world’s most active hard tech and climate innovation markets. Together with Pangaea’s existing hubs in Vancouver and Phoenix, the firm’s Tokyo presence reflects our 26-year history of working closely with corporate LPs to align financial returns with industry- and world-transforming innovation.

山下 寛大 - 東京拠点のインベストメントリードとしてPangaea Venturesに参画

Pangaea Venturesは、東京に於ける新たな投資担当として山下 寛大（Kandai Yamashita）を迎えることになりました。これにより、当社が長年培ってきたコーポレートLPとのパートナーシップモデルと日本のHard Tech Ecosystemとの繋がりをより一層強化していきます。

山下は、これまで三菱商事のCVCチームに所属し、鉱業や気候変動関連テクノロジーへの投資をリードしてきました。 またその間、外部のベンチャーキャピタルへの2年間の出向を経験し、ベンチャー投資の業務内容やポートフォリオマネジメントに関する実務的な知見を培ってきました。

こうした事業会社CVCと独立系VCの両方での経験を活かし、Pangaeaの戦略的LPがグローバルなハードテック投資機会にアクセスできるよう支援するとともに、起業家が産業パートナーとの連携、事業化プロセス、およびスケールアップの課題を乗り越えるためのサポートを行っていきます。

山下は今後、日本の事業会社とPangaeaのポートフォリオ企業とのコラボレーションを更に促進する役割を担い、世界でも有数のハードテック・Climate市場である日本におけるPangaeaのプレゼンス強化をリードします。 バンクーバー及びフェニックスの既存拠点と併せて、東京拠点は、Pangaeaが26年にわたりコーポレートLPと緊密に連携し、財務リターンと産業・社会を変革するイノベーションの両立を追求してきた歴史を体現するものです。
