David Lazovsky

David Lazovsky is Chairman of the board of directors of Energy Storage Systems (ESS, Inc). ESS provides low-cost, long-duration All-Iron Redox Flow Batteries for commercial and utility-scale energy storage applications requiring 4+ hours of energy capacity and 20+ years of operational lifetime.

Mr. Lazovsky also currently serves as the Executive Chairman of the board of directors of POET Technologies, a provider of optoelectronics solutions for the data communications and optical sensors markets.

In 2004 Mr. Lazovsky founded Intermolecular, a semiconductor and clean energy research and development and Intellectual Property licensing company. He served as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the board of directors from September 2004 through October 2014. As President and CEO, Mr. Lazovsky led all aspects of the business through its lifecycle from early stage start-up to a high-growth public company. He grew the business to greater than $70M in annual revenue with over 250 employees, 75% of which had advanced degrees (PhD or Masters). Mr. Lazovsky led the initial public offering of Intermolecular (NASDAQ: IMI) in 2011, with a market capitalization of approximately $500 million.

Mr. Lazovsky has an in-depth knowledge of semiconductor and clean energy industries, as well as extensive international business experience. He led high-performance teams, collaborating on leading-edge technology development with global industrial leaders in the fields of advanced CMOS, analog, non-volatile memory and DRAM, solar photovoltaics, LEDs, advanced glass coatings, displays and advanced batteries.

Prior to Intermolecular, Mr. Lazovsky held several senior management positions at Applied Materials. He was responsible for managing more than $1 billion in Applied Materials’ semiconductor manufacturing equipment business in the Metal Deposition and Thin Films Product Business Groups. He was based in Grenoble, France managing the European business as Director of Business Management for these business groups from 2000 through 2002.

Mr. Lazovsky was Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011, Northern California finalist. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Ohio University. He currently has 45 issued and 8 pending U.S. patents.
