Functional surfaces to prevent medical device complications

Semprus BioSciences is developing functional surfaces to prevent medical device complications.  The intellectual property comes from the MIT labs of Prof. Robert Langer and Prof. Greg Stephanopoulos. Initial product development efforts are focused on the first implantable and permanently antimicrobial surface technology

While medical device products bring substantial benefits to patient care, they inadvertently carry the risk of severe complications. Between the looming explosion in the number of implants and industry's ineffective response to the need for improved surface technology, the market is ready and waiting for the introduction of next-generation devices that can improve the quality and reliability of patient outcomes. Semprus has developed a scalable technology platform which initially targets hospital-acquired infections, but can be extended to address thrombosis, restenosis, and other device interactions.
