Keith Gillard

Keith is General Partner of Pangaea Ventures Ltd., based in Vancouver Canada. Keith has twenty years’ experience as an investor and entrepreneur, with the past nine years focused on venture investing in cleantech and advanced materials.

From 2006-2010, Keith was President of BASF Venture Capital America Inc., establishing the Silicon Valley VC presence for the company. During his time there, he led investments into SDCmaterials Inc., Pangaea Ventures II Ltd., Luca Technologies LLC, Ultracell Corporation, ARCH Venture Fund VII, Arcadia Biosciences, Inc. and Sciona, Inc. He also served on the boards of Chrysalix Energy Limited Partnerships I and II, NGEN I and II, Advanced Bio Nutrition and AgION.

From 2001-2006, Keith was with Mitsubishi Corporation and responsible for technology-related investment and business development activities in Canada, with a specific focus on cleantech. Keith was the only non-Japanese member of the Mitsubishi Corporation Fuel Cell Business Development Office in Tokyo, and was instrumental in establishing Japanese markets and partners for several Canadian and American cleantech companies.

Prior to joining Mitsubishi, Keith began his career in investment banking, structuring mergers and acquisitions as well as manufacturing technology joint ventures into China. In the late '90's, he had a five-year spell as an entrepreneur in IT, establishing three companies in succession and taking them from business plan through financing to completion of product and exit.

Keith sits on the Steering Committee of the Alberta Ingenuity Fund's nanoWorks, and is the co-author of "Inside the Minds: Energy Venture Capital Best Practices", published in 2008 by Aspatore Books. Keith is a founding member of the Californian Consortium on Green Chemistry, the Synthetic Biology Industry Association and the C100.
